Hollywood - A citizens group, led by residents of the streets affected by a recent move by a group of radical, politically motivated outsiders to change their street names, held a news conference today at a local business on Lee Street to announce the establishment of the "SAVE OUR STREETS!" effort.
Sylvia Koutsodontis, owner of Eskay Accounting & Tax Services, Inc., 1821 Lee Street, Hollywood, FL 33020-2406 and large group of other residents and veterans announced a coalition of organizations that is opposing the Hollywood City Council July 3rd decision to move to change their street names by suspending their own rules to all resident choice on the matter. Over 30 residents, and City Commissioner Hernandez, who represents District 2, participated the conference where residents announced their displeasure and their campaign. David Nash, representative of Save Southern Heritage - FL released a resident opinion poll conducted by a nationally recognized non-partisan research firm showing overwhelming support for keeping the street names, and for residents right to decide whether to rename them or not. The poll included 567 residents of varied ethnic, political, gender and age groups. Regarding favoring changing street names: Opposed - 75% Favored - 25% Regarding resident's right to decide on any name change: For Right to Choose - 67% Against Right to Choose - 33% Millennials (age 18-29) polled unanimously (100%) opposed changing the names and supported resident's right to decide on any name change. Also, residents were polled on whether or not they supported the recent trend of eliminating all references to American history and veterans including confederates such as what happened in New Orleans, and Orlando recently. The overwhelming majority opposed this trend. Regarding trend on eliminating American history and veterans memorials including Confederate veterans: Oppose - 78% Support - 22% 100% of millennials opposed the trend as well. The poll shows that all age groups, genders, parties and ethnic groups, including African-Americans, oppose removal of American history and veterans, even if it honors the Confederacy. "Hollywood residents feel exactly the same way about their history as others do where polls have been conducted - they don't agree with Black Lives Matter, Anti-Fa and other marxist/socialist radical groups that American history should be taken down" said David McCallister, Save Southern Heritage - FL spokesmen. "These polls show this small but vocal fringe group is out of touch with America, and politicians that side with them are out of step with their voters" he added. "What we see in Hollywood is the an example of backlash that elected officials can expect when they cater to a radical minority of outsiders who don't represent their constituents' views" McCallister concluded.
